OP isn’t asking if half life is worth getting, only if it’s worth getting on steam, or if steam versions are buggy compared to a metaphorical out of the box versions. (Which is a valid question since steam versions are indeed worse then cd ones) Yes. Absolutely yes. Completely functional right out of the install. Playing through Alyx this past week, I found myself vacillating between the two by the hour—and sometimes by the minute. Having finished, I think Half-Life fans will be pretty damn excited. I Rank the Half-Life games from best to worst. My ranking; Half-Life 2 (better graphics, more detailed story, awesome setting) Half-Life (the original; awesome atmosphere on first playthrough, a classic) Opposing Force (an awesome homage to the first game, adding new friends/enemies, new weapons, new areas. Also, great gameplay for an expansion.) Yes. Thanks everyone, I've decided to play Half Life 2 first to have a break from half life 1 so that later I can fully enjoy Black Mesa and its updated graphics. If you liked the HL games you're prob gonna like Black Mesa. I'd recommend playing through HL2 and the episodes first tho. Half Life:Source is an official Valve product where they dumped the original HL1 Goldsource assets into the Source Engine. It has not been updated over the years and changes to the source engine have left it with a large list of bugs. Most people don't like HL:Source because of this and play the original instead. 1. . Review for Half-Life 2 in ultrawide (21:9). My review of Half-Life 2 covers the Ultrawide Support, Graphics, Gameplay, Story, and sound along with an overall Half-Life. The Longest Journey’s sequel Dreamfall is also worth Only really worth a play if you are itching for some more Half Life action. It is a cut segment from the full game Half Life 2 which was just used for a showcase of HDR being implemented onto the Source engine. You can happily skip playing this if you so desire but it is a fun, little 'walk in the park' mission. Half-Life Alyx should be played after Half-Life 2: Episode 2, not chronologically. NoiseApprehensive266 • 2 mo. ago. That would be the release date order. 1upD • 2 mo. ago. Right, the story only works in release order. You should not play Alyx in chronological order. Ok-Ambition-9432 • 2 mo. ago. Half life source is just a port of half All I can say is that it's a great and fun game to play. Yes, it may look old because it was released in '98 (I believe) but it is, nonetheless addicting as well as a lot of thinking to do when playing throughout the game. After Half-Life, I know I'm getting the expansion packs and the sequel as well.
